Skills for real-life emergencies

If Your Child Ever Ends Up in Water Alone — They Need to Know What to Do

Drowning is fast. Silent. Can happen in any season. And often happens when adults are nearby.

  • Control their breathing

  • Roll onto their back

  • Float independently

  • Maintain an airway until help arrives

These are survival skills — not recreational swim techniques.

WHY WATER SAFETY CAN’T WAIT

Water accidents don’t look like emergencies — and they can unfold in seconds.

Quiet & Quick

Most incidents happen in places children visit every day — not just pools or beaches.

Often in Familiar Places

Supervision has Limits

Even attentive parents can’t control every moment or scenario.

Skills Add a Layer of Protection

Self-Rescue™ skills give children tools to respond when help isn’t immediate.

ISR doesn’t replace supervision — it strengthens water safety by giving children skills of their own.

WHAT IS INFANT SWIMMING RESOURCE (ISR)?

ISR teaches children what to do if they reach water alone.

Your child’s safety is everything. ISR teaches essential self-rescue swim skills to infants and young children—skills proven to save lives if a child falls into water unexpectedly.

Lessons focus on self-rescue skills like floating, breathing, and controlled movement — taught through short, daily, one-on-one sessions designed around how young children actually learn. These skills become the foundation for confident, capable swimming as your child grows.

The goal isn’t bubbles, speed, or strokes.

It’s safety, confidence, and skills that hold up when it matters most.

WHO IS ISR FOR?

  • Families who want real protection—not just swim time.

  • Want more than “water exposure”

  • Are nervous, cautious, or unsure — but know safety matters

Children can begin ISR as early as 6 months old.

WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO START ISR?

There’s no “perfect” age — but there is a right window for each family.

ISR can begin once a child is at least 6 months old and works best when families:

Can commit to short, daily lessons for several weeks

Are open to a structured, safety-first approach

Want to build foundational water safety skills early

If now feels like the right season, ISR can be a powerful step forward.
If it doesn’t, that’s okay — timing matters, and I’m happy to talk it through.

What Makes ISR Different

Traditional swim lessons focus on water comfort and gradual skill-building.

ISR focuses on what actually keeps a child alive in a real emergency

Daily Private Lessons

10 minutes a day

Consistent repetition

Faster skill-building

Built for Your Child

Skills are matched to age, size, and development — not a one-size program.

Proven Method

ISR has been teaching self-rescue skills for decades.

Short lessons. Consistent repetition. Real results.

Adaptive Instruction

Every session adjusts based on what your child needs that day.

A Note for Nervous Parents

If you’re worried about crying, anxiety, or whether ISR is “too much,” you’re not alone.

ISR isn’t about pushing children past their limits. It’s about teaching them how to respond — calmly and effectively — when it matters most.

Meet Your Instructor

Hi! I’m Megan - a mom who understands water anxiety

After the birth of my first child, water stopped feeling peaceful and started feeling terrifying. Living near the ocean, pools, and bays, I desperately searched for ISR lessons in our areas and came up short for years.

Both of my children have now completed ISR lessons and I’ve lived this process as a parent. I know the questions, the emotions and the trust it takes to begin.

My role is to guide your child safely - and walk alongside you every step of the way.

I became an ISR instructor because I was the parent desperately searching for these lessons - and couldn’t find them.

Becoming an instructor was my way of making sure other families didn’t have to feel that same fear — or wait that long for help.

Megan is a certified ISR instructor and mom of two. She understands how busy life is—and how important it is to teach children skills that actually work. Her approach is calm, intentional, and focused on real-world readiness.

  • "ISR has given us peace of mind knowing that our child has the skills to save themselves in an emergency. Watching our toddler confidently float was incredible!"

    —Katie

  • "I have four kids, and I thought I had done everything right. Years of traditional swim lessons—private, group, pool after pool—and my two oldest were still terrified to put their faces in the water. After the first ISR series, something clicked. They weren’t just willing to get their faces wet—they were swimming like they’d been doing it their whole lives. When my third was old enough, we didn’t hesitate. She completed ISR and later had to use her skills when she unexpectedly fell into a pool at a party. They worked. My youngest is almost six months, and we’re already counting down the days until he can start too."

    —Theresa

  • "Megan Tinney has a special way with kids. My 22 month old sobbed the first week of lessons but Megan was patient with her and worked through it. Now my daughter loves going to lessons and asks all the time to go into our pool. I am so impressed with how much she has learned in the short amount of time we have had lessons."

    —Colleen

  • "We love Miss Megan. She is patient with our twins."

    - Allison

  • "Megan is an absolutely amazing instructor! She is so patient and kind when my son is upset and afraid! She reassures him and keeps a consistent routine program! He absolutely loves coming to his lesson every day and has learned so so much already in such a short time! I’m so impressed with Megan’s skills, patience and love for teaching swimming. "

  • "Megan was an absolute pleasure to work with. This is our 3rd year of ISR and I couldn’t say more positive things about how much we were able to further our child’s ISR experience working with her."

    - Anonymous

  • "Megan Tinney was very enjoyable to work with. Her demeanor was warm and comforting to a nervous child. With our previous instructor, my child cried every single day. With Megan, he stopped crying by the end of the first week. He stopped saying he didn’t want to go and looked forward to swimming lessons. "

  • "We just want to say thank you for the best 3 weeks ever! We are so grateful to have gotten an awesome instructor like yourself to teach our daughter everything she knows now!"

    - IA

  • "My son has learned so so much already in such a short time! I’m so impressed with Megan’s skills, patience and love for teaching swimming. Thank you for all you do to help the families in your area!"
